I want to tell you about my journey. So, I am a board-certified pediatrician with ZERO student loan debt. WOW!! That is truly a blessing but let me tell you how I did it. I am not a sponsor for any organization nor do I have stock in any organization. I just want to tell my story and hopefully it helps inspires someone else.
Undergraduate – My dream was attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I applied to 5 schools in North Carolina. I was accepted into all 5 and had a tuition covered for each public school. As a graduate of North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) our tuition was covered if we attended a state university. Some schools over a little more but I only had a full academic scholarship to North Carolina Central University. But this was not my dream school. I was supposed to walk-on as a basketball player on UNC team. Why take a full scholarship to an HBCU? Let me tell you, my mother said I’m taking the full ride and that was the best decision of my life. (Don’t get me wrong, I cried for a week in my room at NCSSM but my mother was right in so many ways).
I say this as your journey is not your final production! Just because you don’t attend your dream school, doesn’t mean it will not come back around. Take the free money! Trust me, the prestigious and the DEBT is not worth the headache. You will thank me later! I can promise you that!
